The Problem

The reports needed to be informative and visually compelling, making the reading experience as smooth as possible without losing the weight of the subject matter, a series on the working rights of immigrants in the UK, addressed directly to policymakers.

From struggle to resilience

The covers, designed in collaboration with photographer Edward Davies, became a space for creative expression rather than illustration. Instead of the conventional depiction of hardship, each cover focused on strength and dignity, aligning with the themes of the reports to build a more empowering visual narrative. A shift from struggle to resilience.

The System

Clean layouts, structured typography, and strong visual hierarchy carried that same clarity through the rest of the design. The goal wasn't just ease of reading, it was strategic: policymakers read a lot of dense material, and a layout this legible gives an argument a better chance of actually landing instead of getting lost.

The reports encouraged policymakers to engage more deeply with the content, both in print and online, and Report 2 went on to be cited in a House of Lords briefing on an amendment to the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill.
